Man charged with principal's murder

A 43-year-old man is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trate's Court Tues­day charged with the mur­der of school prin­ci­pal Jezelle Philip on Jan­u­ary 6th.

The man, who had sur­ren­dered to po­lice fol­low­ing the killing at Ba­by's Pre-School, was charged by homi­cide in­ves­ti­ga­tors short­ly af­ter 1 pm yes­ter­day.


He had been in po­lice cus­tody for close to a week be­fore in­struc­tions were re­ceived by the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions (DPP) to charge him.

Philip was at the pre-school lo­cat­ed at the cor­ner of In­de­pen­dence Square and George Street, Port-of-Spain when she was at­tacked by a man she knew.

Philip was stabbed sev­er­al times to the up­per body.

Her at­tack­er fled the scene but lat­er sur­ren­dered to po­lice at the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion.

Philip was tak­en to Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where she suc­cumbed to her in­juries.

She was laid to rest fol­low­ing a fu­ner­al ser­vice held at the Cathe­dral of Im­mac­u­late Con­cep­tion on Mon­day.
