A 43-year-old man is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate's Court Tuesday charged with the murder of school principal Jezelle Philip on January 6th.
The man, who had surrendered to police following the killing at Baby's Pre-School, was charged by homicide investigators shortly after 1 pm yesterday.
He had been in police custody for close to a week before instructions were received by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to charge him.
Philip was at the pre-school located at the corner of Independence Square and George Street, Port-of-Spain when she was attacked by a man she knew.
Philip was stabbed several times to the upper body.
Her attacker fled the scene but later surrendered to police at the Besson Street Police Station.
Philip was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
She was laid to rest following a funeral service held at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Monday.
