Boyfriend charged with Dolmati's murder

The boyfriend of Dolmati Mangroo has been charged for her murder.

23-year-old Nirmal Sullivan appeared before a Chaguanas magistrate today. 

Mangroo was found dead at the pig farmer's house last week.

According to reports, she had chop wounds about her body, her throat was slashed and her fingers chopped off.

She was discovered by relatives, who believe her murder was premeditated.

 

Boy pleads guilty to threatening Police Commissioner

A 12-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to issuing death threats to Police Commissioner Gary Griffith. 

The schoolboy, who can not be identified because he is a minor, pleaded guilty to misusing a telephone to send a threatening message when he appeared before Master Nazeera Ali in the Port-of-Spain Children's Court this afternoon. 

Ali did not immediately sentence him as she requested a report from the Probation Services Division to assist in determining the appropriate punishment. 

$18,000 fine for man who pleads guilty to possession of gun, ammunition

A South Oropouche man is fined $18,000 after pleading guilty on a charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition.

David Ramsey, 24, a Health and Safety Officer, of Warden Road, South Oropouche, appeared before Magistrate Margaret Alert in the Siparia 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Monday 11th June, 2018.

Ramsey was fined $12,000 for the possession of a firearm and $6,000 for possession of ammunition.

Three women found guilty of stealing honey

A mother of one, who was among three women found guilty of stealing several bottles of honey from a supermarket, was on Friday sentenced to four months in jail.

Tiffany Turton, 33, a URP worker, asked to pay a fine rather than jail time but a trace of her record revealed that she had previous convictions for larceny.

The other accused, Alisha Scott, 30, a mother of four, was fined $2,500 while Dana Conell, 36, a mother of one, was granted bail to reappear in court today for sentencing.

Attorney Joseph Melville found guilty of conspiracy to murder

Attorney Joseph Melville has been found guilty of conspiracy to murder his secretary, Patricia Cox. 

Melville, of Foster Road, Sangre Grande, was convicted alongside "PH" taxi-driver Hilton Winchester in March 2004, on charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, kidnapping and assault occasioning bodily harm. 

Today's sentence came after a retrial which was ordered by the Appeal Court in 2011.

Jury finds Dylann Roof guilty of racially-motivated killings in black church

A jury has found Dylann Roof guilty of all charges in the racially motivated killing of nine black church worshipers in Charleston, S.C., last year.

The same 12-member jury will weigh whether to give the 22-year-old a sentence of life in prison or the death penalty during a second, penalty phase of the federal case.

The jury returned a verdict after about two hours of deliberations, capping a trial phase where the outcome was never in serious question.

Man found guilty of attempting to murder ex common-law wife

A jury has found Trevor Creft guilty of attempting to murder his ex-common-law wife, Tricia Anthony, in spite of her refusal to testify against him.

Mitigation and sentencing has been reserved for April 13.

The guilty verdict was handed down by the mixed jury, in the matter which was heard before Justice Maria Wilson in the San Fernando Third Criminal Court.

The jury deliberated for approximately one hour before before arriving at their decision on Wednesday.
