Barrackpore Bridge opens

Less than a week after the Barrackpore Bridge collapsed following devastating floods, a temporary bailey bridge has been opened to the public.

Local government minister Senator Kazim Hosein visited the area on Friday and met with residents who expressed relief that the New Colonial Road was finally opened again.

At Number 2 Junction, Eddie Surjan said even though the bridge was incomplete, he was thankful it was still open.

Rambharat: Government hasn’t abandoned flood victims

Agriculture Minister, Clarence Rambharat, says government has not abandoned those who are suffering as a result of the recent flooding disaster in South Trinidad.

Speaking in Parliament today, the minister reported that local government officials have been on the ground since yesterday, and the Defence Force has lent its assistance.

Minister Rambharat confirmed his Cabinet colleagues—the ministers of Transport and Local Government—are on the ground, getting an assessment of the extent of the flooding damage for themselves.

Voting day in South Trinidad

Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein says he finds it surprising that voters were accusing EBC officials of not following proper guidelines during the voting process.

He was speaking in response to a report from journalist Cindy Raghubar-Teekersingh that proper procedures were not being followed when she went to vote at the Cowen Hamilton School in Princes Town.
